I’ve got two boys that I’m raising and so far they have picked up none of my bad habits. Now that I’m a family man, I left the rock band thing that I did when I was younger. I spent age 17 to 35 or so moonlighting as lead vocalist with a little keyboard playing to help fill out the sound with different bands over those years, Ranging from high school garage bands to serious regional bands that toured a little and to local bands that got it’s ya-ya’s out in small clubs around the area. I was never close to the big time and never expected to get close; I just had a good time doing it. I realized I had to quit because my kids were young and demanding and it was too hard to function as a parent on Sunday morning when you got back from Warroad at . God, do I miss the band thing, but my life with my kids is beyond words and I have no regrets, just a little longing that would probably go away a couple of weeks later if I got back into it again.
My life is Family, Work and Youth Sports right now and it’s been blur.
West coast games... Jeez... I hung in there. I watched 9 innings of baseball last night. When Perkins walked in the tying run in the ninth it was past midnight. So... I said to myself... This could go on all night and I got to work in the morning. So... I went to bed. I took my I-Pad with me and I was following along on Gamecast but Yeah... I turned the TV off and missed one of the more exciting innings of the year.
Chris Herrmann wasn't supposed to be in the lineup. Some will say that it's questionable if he should be in the major leagues but there he was with the bases loaded in the 10th and the rookie hits a Grand Slam as the Twins plated 7 for a 10-3 extra inning win.
Joe Mauer was supposed to catch today like usual but his wife went into labor right before game time and he flew back to Minnesota. Joe and his wife are having Twins by the way... How Cool is that?
So with Mauer a late scratch from the lineup. Chris Herrmann was the replacement and he had a nice game going 3 for 5 with that Grand Slam.
Chris Herrmann is 25 years old... He was drafted in the 6th round in 2009 out of the University of Miami. He has never been considered an elite prospect. Throughout his minor league career he's been average at best. He was hitting .227 in AAA this year and that doesn't scream superstar. His best skill is position flexibility. He's a decent Catcher and he's also a decent OF and that combination of positions could be valuable as a backup.
It's one of the great things about baseball. Anybody can win a game for you. Our best player is in airplane and someone else steps up. Somebody that you wouldn't expect. This kind of thing happens all the time and I went to bed and missed it.
As for Joe... No announcement yet on the birth of his Twins. The press can follow the Royal baby around all they want. Joe is our royalty and he's having Twins. That is much more interesting.
