I’ve got two boys that I’m raising and so far they have picked up none of my bad habits. Now that I’m a family man, I left the rock band thing that I did when I was younger. I spent age 17 to 35 or so moonlighting as lead vocalist with a little keyboard playing to help fill out the sound with different bands over those years, Ranging from high school garage bands to serious regional bands that toured a little and to local bands that got it’s ya-ya’s out in small clubs around the area. I was never close to the big time and never expected to get close; I just had a good time doing it. I realized I had to quit because my kids were young and demanding and it was too hard to function as a parent on Sunday morning when you got back from Warroad at . God, do I miss the band thing, but my life with my kids is beyond words and I have no regrets, just a little longing that would probably go away a couple of weeks later if I got back into it again.
My life is Family, Work and Youth Sports right now and it’s been blur.
The big news in baseball yesterday was the announced suspension of Ryan Braun for PED use. Ryan isn't fighting this one and reached an agreement for suspension for the rest of the year. 65 games total and and it will cost Braun around 3 million dollars. That's 3 million dollars that was remaining on his 2013 salary of 8.5 Million salary. 5.5 Million he has already been paid.
Don't worry about Ryan Braun... He's going to be OK... He's still under contract and will make 10 million next year. As a matter of fact... He's under contract until 2020 and is still owed 113 million and he still gets all of that money unless the Brewers decide to buy his contract out for 4 million. I doubt they will do that. Unless Ryan Braun off PED's becomes a mere mortal baseball player.
Everything considered... It was a good deal for Ryan Braun to just get all of this behind him and take his salary hit this year. The Brewers are not in contention this year and according to his contract he will make a little more money with each passing year. In other words... He would end up forfeiting more money if the suspension was dragged out until next year.
For Ryan's benefit it made sense to get the suspension over with as quickly as possible.
This is just the tip of the iceberg... At least that is my assumption. We are aware of many names on the biogenesis list. I think there are a lot more than that. The Temptation is too great... The reward too high.
All you have to do is look at how Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa made a joke of the home run record from PED use. The stuff works... It's that simple...
Melky Cabrera was an average ball player... He found PED's and became a damn good ball player. Even after he was caught and served his suspension while playing with the Giants... The Blue Jays were willing to spend 16 Million on signing him as a free agent. Before he took PED's... Melky Cabrera would not have been offered a 16 million dollar contract. His production was not good enough.
The message is simple... Take PED's and you will get paid. PED's can be the difference between having an $500,000 salary in the majors and a 10 Million dollar yearly salary in the majors. They can be the difference between having a major league job and not having a major league job. A major league job at the minimum pays 400,000 dollars year.
For us poor working slobs... Ask yourself what would you do for a job that pays $400,000 a year minimum. A job with young superstars behind you looking to take that job from you every day.
Would you pad your resume at the least?
Once you look into the dark heart and put that in perspective. You will join me in the fear that this problem is much larger than the names that have surfaced thus far. Baseball has a huge mess on its hands.
Meanwhile... Last night... Sam Deduno was a little bit wild last night but he was also a little bit hard to hit and the Twins rode the bat of Clete Thomas to a 4-3 win over the Angels.
