I’ve got two boys that I’m raising and so far they have picked up none of my bad habits. Now that I’m a family man, I left the rock band thing that I did when I was younger. I spent age 17 to 35 or so moonlighting as lead vocalist with a little keyboard playing to help fill out the sound with different bands over those years, Ranging from high school garage bands to serious regional bands that toured a little and to local bands that got it’s ya-ya’s out in small clubs around the area. I was never close to the big time and never expected to get close; I just had a good time doing it. I realized I had to quit because my kids were young and demanding and it was too hard to function as a parent on Sunday morning when you got back from Warroad at . God, do I miss the band thing, but my life with my kids is beyond words and I have no regrets, just a little longing that would probably go away a couple of weeks later if I got back into it again.
My life is Family, Work and Youth Sports right now and it’s been blur.
That was a big series with the Tigers this weekend.
I was thinking that if the Twins would have swept... it would have bounced them up into contention for the title leaving them 3.5 games back.
I was also thinking that if the Twins got swept... it would pretty much knock them out by leaving them 9.5 games back.
Well the Tigers won 2 out of three and the Twins are now 7.5 games back. So what does that mean?
Nothing... The Twins are basically the same position that they were going into the series.
The Twins lost 4-0 on Friday... They won 6-3 on Saturday and they lost 5-2 on Sunday.
The Twins didn't hit very well and Twins fans want to be frustrated by that... However, the Tigers have a pretty good pitching staff and some fans fail to recognize that the opponent sometimes has something to say about the out come.
So was it Poor Twins hitting or Great Tigers pitching?
It's both... Baseball game results are always a combination of both teams.
I'm sure you can recognize the sentiment... If a Twins pitcher gets lit up... We blame the pitcher... If the opposing pitcher shuts us down... We blame the Hitters. If the Vikings offense has to punt... It's because Christian Ponder is terrible and we don't consider that the other teams defense may have made a play or two. It always about what our team did and rarely what the other team did.
As games start going into the books we are able to compare and contrast additional data and the correct story of who is performing and who is not can be determined with peer analysis.
Doing peer analysis before the series started said:
The Twins Rank 21st in hitting using OPS (on base percentage plus slugging).
The Twins rank 23rd in pitching using ERA.
The Tigers rank 4th in hitting using OPS.
The Tigers rank 6th in pitching using ERA.
So... We knew going into the series that the Tigers pitching staff was pretty good and the Twins offense wasn't doing all that good.
In light of that... The results were not surprising. Like Meat Loaf once sang... "Two out of three ain't bad". Even if that means losing two out of three.
7.5 games back... we are still just a run of the mill hot streak from getting back into it and a run of the mill cold streak from starting preperation for next year.
The Twins are off today... The Hated White Sox (I hate the White Sox) will be in Minneapolis tomorrow night for a 3 game series.
