I’ve got two boys that I’m raising and so far they have picked up none of my bad habits. Now that I’m a family man, I left the rock band thing that I did when I was younger. I spent age 17 to 35 or so moonlighting as lead vocalist with a little keyboard playing to help fill out the sound with different bands over those years, Ranging from high school garage bands to serious regional bands that toured a little and to local bands that got it’s ya-ya’s out in small clubs around the area. I was never close to the big time and never expected to get close; I just had a good time doing it. I realized I had to quit because my kids were young and demanding and it was too hard to function as a parent on Sunday morning when you got back from Warroad at . God, do I miss the band thing, but my life with my kids is beyond words and I have no regrets, just a little longing that would probably go away a couple of weeks later if I got back into it again.
My life is Family, Work and Youth Sports right now and it’s been blur.
The Twins have won 2 in a row and the Phillies have lost 5 in a row after last night's 4-3 Twins Victory. Winning a baseball game is a team effort but sometimes 3 players can do enough to lead that team effort and that was the case last night.
Mike Pelfrey had a decent start... He had a rough first that was partially fueled by a blown call at 1st by the umpire but all in all... He kept the team in the game so talented Rookie Oswaldo Arcia and little considered 30 year old MLB journeyman Clete Thomas could do enough offensively to win. Hitting 6th and 7th in the lineup... Arcia and Thomas took over the offense and the duo basically produced all 4 runs that the Twins scored and needed. 3 players and a win was how the game went last night.
Oswaldo Arcia went 3 for 4 at the plate and Clete Thomas hitting after him went 4 for 4. Arcia scored 3 of the teams 4 runs. Clete Thomas scored the other run on a wild pitch and drove in 2 runs. That was basically the entire Twins offense.
Clete Thomas has to take advantage of opportunities when they come is way and last night he did. Let's see if he can do it again. Clete Thomas is only with the club because:
A: Starting Centerfielder Aaron Hicks was placed on the disabled List with a hamstring injury.
B. Backup Centerfielder Darin Mastroianni has barely played this year with an ankle injury.
C. Backup outfielder Wilken Ramirez who is kinda capable of playing CF suffered a concussion after running into Josh Willingham while playing CF.
D. Once a decent prospect... Center Fielder Joe Benson performed so poorly in the minors that he was released and claimed by the Texas Rangers and is now playing AA baseball for the Rangers.
E. Josh Willingham, Chris Parmelee, Ryan Doumit and Oswaldo Arcia are not experienced nor fleet enough afoot to be considered to play CF. (maybe Parmelee could do it)?
F. Centerfielders Denard Span and Ben Revere were traded during the off season
All of that had to happen to give 30 year old Clete Thomas another crack at Major League Baseball. That's how far down the depth chart he is.
Because A through F happened... We won last night because we wouldn't have won without Clete last night. Baseball works that way and it makes the sport beautiful... Anybody can step up and be a hero... Any Night.
The Twins face the talented Cliff Lee tonight in the final game of their matchup with the Phillies. Kevin Correia will try to keep pace with Lee for the Twins as they go for the series sweep.
Minor Leagues: Miguel Sano and Eddie Rosario made their debuts with AA New Britain playing a double header yesterday. Rosario went 2 for 4 with a couple of singles in the double header. Sano failed to get a hit in both games but he did drive in all of the runs that the Rock Cats scored for the entire double header. That was 2 runs total and both runs scored on Sano Sacrifice flies. SP Trevor May pitched 6 innings... Struckout 8, walking 3 while allowing 3 runs and that line is pretty much what Trevor May has done all year.
Byron Buxton had another nice game in Cedar Rapids. Going 3 for 6 with a double.
