(WENN) - The Ataris frontman Kris Roe shocked fans at a concert in New Jersey on Saturday when he flew into a rage onstage and started attacking drummer Rob Felicetti.

The Boys of Summer were performing their song "Your Boyfriend Sucks" at an Asbury Park gig when the singer lost his temper and hurled his guitar at Felicetti, before dismantling his drumkit and throwing pieces around the stage.

Felicetti made a prompt exit to escape injury and Roe attempted to explain his outburst to fans, insisting he was not impressed by his drummer's performance.

He told the stunned crowd, "Our drummer is f**king failing it tonight. I don't know what his f**king problem is, but I'm gonna finish the set by myself."

"It's f**king embarrassing, I can't handle it. I apologize, but there's a certain amount of f**king s**t I can take."

Reports suggest Felicetti quit the band after the disastrous gig, but bandmate Tom Holst has assured devotees the group is working to resolve its differences.

In a post on Twitter, he writes:

However, Roe has decided to temporarily continue with The Ataris' tour on his own and will take to the stage in Rhode Island on Tuesday as scheduled.
