In 2011, we had the opportunity to learn CPR, basic first aid and how to use AED machines thanks to the Minn-Kota Chapter of the Red Cross.  It is something you can do to prepare for an emergency.  I encourage you to visit the Minn-Kota Chapter's Web site to learn more about CPR/First Aid classes.  Sign up and get certified to help.  You never know when you could save a life!

It may be a little early to start celebrating St. Patrick's Day...but not for this town!  Evidently, Mobile, Alabama has a leprechaun roaming the streets at night in one neighborhood.  Watch the video:

The interesting part of this is how nobody has actually seen this leprechaun.  Even with all the technology available at the scene such as cameras, video recorders and cellular phones, the "leprechaun" has seemed to evade the grips of the public.  The amateur sketch really sets the nature of what is happening in the neighborhood.  Keep in mind that my normal doodling after drinking relatively heavily one evening may result in a similar drawing. 

I think I'll just agree with the lady passing by in her car who says, "Could be a crackhead that got hold to the wrong stuff, and told him to get up in a tree and play a leprechaun."  I'm not too certain about the guy suited up near the end with the special "flute" that has been "passed down from thousands of years ago from [his] great great grandfather who was Irish."

If they find the pot of gold, I hope they share with me.

Yes, I'm one of the biggest geeks in the building, and I am more than proud of it!  Paul Kelly is the only person in contention for the title of "Nerd King".  Anyway, I figured I would share some of my nerdness.  If you have read any of my profile, you'll know that I'm a huge sci-fi geek including Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Eureka and Warehouse 13 just to name a few. 

Star Trek is awesome in the sense that all things contained within the series are in some way plausible to become reality.  Remember the flip phone craze?  You can thank Star Trek for inspiring the designers to create such a device.  Currently, scientists are working on a real-world transporter device!  You've seen Starfleet personnel beam from massive starships to the foreign lands of alien planets for many years.  Soon, you may have the opportunity to be materialized from one city to another on the other side of Earth!  Seriously!  Don't believe me?  Here's the article. 

The great starships of Star Trek have also inspired many books displaying the layout and how they work in the Star Trek Universe.  The book displayed below is one of the latest editions to give a glimpse into the inner-workings of the famous starships you may have seen for many years.  Take a look as to where the Jeffries Tubes run, EPS conduits and secondary backups!  You never know when you may need to reroute primary weapons through the external EPS relays to increase the output of the deflector dish!  Seriously.  I hope this will be a path to the future so we are able to explore the universe.  /End nerdness.

Let's face it, I'm a sucker for really awesome videos.  I have always wanted to make a video of this calibur (see link below).  I can only fathom the resources needed to pull this sort of thing off.  Nearly thousands of people to be in the video, collaboration with the city police for traffic control throughout the route (and to be in the video with the fire department), plus people who know the words to the song.  Then, having every person know exactly what to do and when to do it had to take some serious time.  I definitely throw out a BIG thumbs up to these people for making such an awesome thing possible.  Watch the video and experience it for yourself.
